Christmas Gifts: Ideas and Inspiration

It is that time of year when the nights draw in earlier, the log fires start burning and before you know it the festivities will have begun!  You may already be panicking over the perfect presents to buy for friends and family.  Is there a graphic designer or creative you know and you have no idea what to get them? Let me see if I can help with that with this collection of gift ideas and inspiration.

1. 1000 Colours Puzzle

Is there someone you know that likes a fun challenge? They should try ‘1000 Colours’, a CMYK colour range jigsaw with 1000 pieces.  Each tile has its own individual colour and it is ever so slightly different from those surrounding it.  It could be the most frustrating yet satisfying puzzle ever! The puzzle can be found here.

2. The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog: Card Game

Not only contains every letter in the alphabet, but it is a memory game focused on typography.  It tells you the evolution of type design and helps to teach you the main typographic terms used currently. Visit www.goodreads.com for the list of places to buy.

He also has another book called ‘Know Your Onions: Web Design’. Written in a funny, conversational way so it is easy to digest, the book gives a great overview in designing for the web with techniques, brainstorming ideas and knowledge.

Fitness Fundraiser

Fitness Fundraiser

Fitness Fundraiser.

Raise money and feel great!

Fitness Fundraiser, let’s raise some money and have some fun!

I was approached by Anna Pickett of Total Body Fitness to see if I could lend my graphic design skills to make a poster for a fitness fundraiser in aid of a young boy Aaron Knight, who sadly lost his life very prematurely to cancer. Being a mother I didn’t give it a second thought.

A great collaboration of local fitness instructors have joined forces and for one night only putting on an evening of exercise! The exercises are all very different and will appeal to all!

So Who’s doing what on the night?

Strong by Zumba – Caroline Pickett, Total Body Fitness – Anna Pickett, Veraflow – Simmone Shearn, Zumba – Chantelle Johnson Clubbercise – Cella De Palma, Pound Fit – Shelly Finch and Rachel Warren and Reflex Personal Training – Laura Stopps. Kim Gumbleton, is running the London Marathon alongside the event, please find the link for her just giving page.

The event is going to run for two hours and its going to be non stop! The ladies have worked so hard securing some great prizes for a raffle, if you are local to Shaftesbury then please secure your ticket!

Anyone who is a mother or father, grandparent or sibling would find it difficult to relate to the sadness unless it has happened to them. I have had a weep writing this post! So please dig deep into your pockets and either get to the event in person or if you can’t make it please support by donating.

Here is my little donation of my skills and I will be visiting Kim’s page along with attending the event!

The Design

Any poster that is designed needs to be eye catching, it doesn’t matter if it’s printed or digital. Your poster needs to catch the viewers eye and make them stop and read. This poster being for an evening event that is going to be full packed, loud and even a little crazy. I had the idea of a party scene with lighting and strobe type background. The text in white works great on the silhouette with a little drop shadow to make it stand out further its easy to read the main details.

“The Fitness Fundraiser has to be the biggest event in Shaftesbury this year.”

What next?

The event is very close so the ladies need help in letting everyone know about the event, if you can’t get to the event please donate on the just giving page. Would be lovely to raise as much as possible for the charity Children With Cancer UK
